Love, desire and closeness

All topics

Love in the Bible is patience, kindness and not insisting on its own way — more than a feeling. That holds in marriage, in dating, and when it is quiet between you. Treat the other person as a person, not a project. Desire belongs, and it deserves care. You may take it slow. You do not need every answer tonight.

Love is patient and is kind; love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

What it means

This is not first a poem for weddings. It is how you treat the person in the email who annoys you. Love waits, does not need to win, and does not keep a list.

How you can live it

In a friendship: one thing from the list — for example not seeking your own, not behaving badly in the email.

But now faith, hope, and love remain — these three. The greatest of these is love.

What it means

Feelings come and go. Faith, hope and love are what you can still choose when the feeling has left. Love is the one that still does something.

How you can live it

Measure the day in love: who was met kindly? Not in how popular you were.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God.

What it means

Kärleken börjar hos Gud, inte hos dig. När du älskar någon på riktigt hör du till honom — som familj. Att känna Gud syns i hur du tar hand om andra, inte bara i vad du säger att du tror.

How you can live it

Visa kärlek konkret: ett meddelande som bygger, en plats vid bordet, att sluta skvallra.

A prayer

Lord, teach me a love that is kind and patient, not scared or demanding. Amen.
