Work and pressure

When body and soul are spent

All topics

Burnout is not laziness. Jesus calls the one who is already tired, not the one who has managed everything. Rest is a gift, not a reward you have to earn. You may put it down, ask for help, and let him carry what is too heavy. Strength often comes in the rest, not in more pressure.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

What it means

Jesus calls the one who is already tired, not the one who has managed everything. Rest is a gift, not a reward. What he asks you to carry is gentle — not one more demand on top of work and home.

How you can live it

When you are spent: say ‘I come to you’. Put the phone away for a while. Rest is allowed.

There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.

What it means

Det finns en sabbatsvila för Guds folk. Låt oss sträva efter att komma in i den vilan. Vila är något att gå in i, inte något som bara händer när du är helt slutkörd.

How you can live it

Planera vila som du planerar arbetet. En kväll utan skärm är andlig praktik, inte lathet.

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

What it means

Hoping in the Lord is not doing nothing. It is not giving up while you rest, pray, and let him refill what work and worry emptied. Strength often comes there — not in more pressure.

How you can live it

When the future feels thin: wait actively — pray, rest, take the next small step.

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.

What it means

I can do all things through him who strengthens me — in need and in plenty, not only in success.

How you can live it

Before something hard: ‘through him who strengthens me’. Then do the next small piece.

A prayer

Jesus, I am spent. I come to you. Teach me to rest without guilt. Amen.
