Quiet days for grief, worry and what is heavy.
You do not walk the valley alone.
A Psalm by David. the LORD is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
What it means
God is like a shepherd. You do not lack what you truly need. Even when everything feels dark (‘the valley of the shadow of death’) you need not be afraid — he walks with you, not behind. Rod and staff protect and guide. They do not strike you — but they may steer when you go wrong, and that can sting.
How you can live it
When you are afraid: say to the Lord ‘you are with me’. You do not have to get out of it yourself. He walks there with you.
Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the LORD’s house forever.
What it means
Goodness and mercy follow you — not because you tightened up, but because he is your shepherd. Even on days you would rather forget. And you belong with him for real, not as a guest who has to behave.
How you can live it
End the day with: ‘mercy follows me.’ Not because you were good. Because he is shepherd.
